Wow! I am so amazed by how great tonight was. I was expecting good things but the evening was just perfect. Wonderful food and drink, fabulous film, great barn and incredible hosting.
I really did leave with a smile on my face.”

Gripping

H.G. Wells spent many years locally, living at Uppark and working in Midhurst, so the setting of the film at Iping, albeit fictionalised kicks off a fabulous theme for us with this, our opening film in our 10th year.

“The scene where Griffin first flaunts his invisibility is the kind of cinema magic that paralyzes disbelief and sets the most skeptical audience wondering [...] Not only is the show a technical tour de force, ‘The Invisible Man’ also contains some of the best dialogue ever written for a fantastic film” — Carlos Clarens (The Illustrated History of Horror and Science-Fiction Films)

The Invisible Man” is played by Claude Rains, which was his debut performance, and extraordinary as you only see him in full at the end. However his voice is incredible. Not only is his voice chillingly sinister, but his personality is outstanding, as he perfectly balances the line between being intimidating, sympathetic, ruthless, heartless and hilarious. This is a villain that goes beyond your stereotypical horror movie bad guy, in fact he feels more like someone that belongs in a Shakespeare play, and the performance is just as operatic. He also has one of the most spectacular evil laughs. The Invisible Man stands as one of my all-time favorite movie villains.

While many movies from the 1930’s were good, they did admittedly have a slow overtone often. “The Invisible Man” on the other hand is anything but boring, from beginning to end it’s a really fun ride. The effects are amazing and feel very contemporary - there are no joins to be seen.

The Invisible Man” is a truly outstanding film and will grip you from start to finish, one of my absolute favourites.

Wild and Wonderful World of John P.Fulton

John P. Fulton | A photo taken during an early studio tank test shot for the 1958 Paramount motion picture "The Buccaneer" about corsair Jean Lafitte, starring Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston. Fulton was responsible for creating the effects. Later, these frigate miniature shots never were used in the finished film but replaced by a few stock footage scenes of the tall ship replica "Hispaniola" from Disneys "Treasure Island" (1950).

Occasionally we may need to adjust the menu depending on availability, as in our search for authenticity, this sometimes becomes too difficult.
